Movin’Marine Proposes a Radical Shift in Mineral Exploration

A new technology aims to establish what could be described as a “new normal” in mineral exploration globally, and particularly in Peru. The technology is known as M2 Radar.

According to the founders of Movin’Marine, this software-based system identifies highly mineralized zones more rapidly than conventional exploration methods. In practical terms, the technology is designed to locate areas rich in copper and gold with significantly accelerated timelines.

The company reports that the technology was tested at Gold Fields La Cima, specifically at the Cerro Corona operation in Cajamarca. To verify the accuracy of the data generated by the system, representatives from Gold Fields requested Movin’Marine to determine the mineral potential of a specific area near the mining operation. Gold Fields was already familiar with the geological data and sought to confirm whether the results obtained by the M2 Radar within days corresponded to findings previously established through months and even years of exploration. According to Movin’Marine, the outcomes were favorable.

The technology has since been used by Minera Caravelí, and it has reportedly attracted interest from several major mining companies operating in Peru. Movin’Marine has established its local subsidiary, Movin Marine Perú, with plans to expand its portfolio of potential clients throughout the region.

The radar system is described as capable of identifying anomalous zones associated with gold, copper and zinc at qualitative reference concentrations starting from approximately 0.10–0.50 g/t Au, 0.10%–0.50% Cu and around 0.5% Zn. The company states that the system can achieve penetration depths of up to approximately one kilometer under suitable geological conditions. While traditional methods may require extended periods to gather comparable data, Movin’Marine indicates that its system can deliver preliminary results within significantly shorter timeframes.

The radar identifies mineral-related anomalies and qualitatively indicates high, medium and low concentration levels without the need for extensive preliminary ground studies. The collected data is delivered in the form of georeferenced maps outlining the contours of geophysical anomalies.

The M2 Radar is an airborne system designed for deployment on helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft, operating at altitude and at standard cruising speeds. Technically, the company describes it as a passive system that records electromagnetic waves originating from the Earth’s crust, enabling the detection of anomalous zones. These anomalies may be associated with subsurface geological structures emitting specific wave spectra, with results determined by identifying the presence or absence of certain frequencies through spectral filtering.

Movin’Marine was founded in 2002 in Empuriabrava, Spain. Initially, the company focused on marine exploration and participated in international projects, including collaboration with Deep Ocean Expeditions, the organization responsible for tourist expeditions to the Titanic wreck at depths of approximately 12,000 feet in the Atlantic Ocean. In recent years, the company has expanded its scope and reoriented its primary activities toward terrestrial and marine mineral exploration.
